Name change for Facebook
We know the new name of the company Facebook. From now on, the firm founded by Mark Zuckerberg will be called “ Meta ” to better represent all of its activities.
This was announced this Thursday, October 28, 2021.
Note that it is simply the name of the group that changes, and not its various applications such as WhatsApp, Messenger, Facebook or Instagram.
“Meta” means “beyond”
Meta , from ancient Greek which means “ beyond ”, wants to carry a strong message: “always more to build”.
Mark Zuckerberg said it was time to learn lessons to build the next chapter .
This announcement was made after an hour and a half of presentation of the ” metaverse “, ” métavers ” in French for meta-universe .
Mark Zuckerberg’s ambition is to bring his firm into the metaverse , a kind of digital parallel world where it will be possible to interact with others from a distance as if they were in the same room as us.
According to him, the metavers would be the future of the internet .
“Meta will help us build the Metaverse, a place where we can all play and connect in 3D,” the firm tweeted on Thursday. “The metaverse is the next evolution of social connections. It is a collective project that will be created by people all over the world, and open to everyone. You will be able to socialize, learn, collaborate and play much more extensively than is possible today. ”
Following this announcement, the group said it wanted to invest several billion dollars in the coming years and recruit 10,000 people for this project in Europe.
An announcement to make people forget the controversies?
Entangled for some time now in controversies, Facebook is accused of putting profit before people.
Toxic content and disinformation, manipulation of Internet users and too little moderation regarding hate speech on its social networks , this name change announcement comes at the right time to make people forget the increasingly heavy rumors on the social networks of the Facebook group.
