A subscription for Instagram & Facebook creators

Facebook and Instagram’s new paid offering (Meta) has been unveiled.

This is Meta Verified which consists, through a monthly subscription, to have its accounts validated and obtain a greater protection as well as a better visibility.

This new subscription is, for the moment, only open tocreators.

What is an Instagram creator?

Launching in 2019, the creative account was created for content producers, influencers, public figures and artists.

Initially available to accounts with more than 10,000 followers and linked to a Facebook page, it is now open to all users, regardless of the number of followers.

Meta said the subscription will expand to professionals in the future.

Benefits of Meta Verified

  • A verified badge: your account is authenticated with a government ID.

You will be asked to show proof of identity to validate this subscription. The name on the ID should be similar to the name on the Meta account to indicate that you are who you say you are.

  • More protections against impersonation: stronger monitoring of accounts that may impersonate other accounts as their audience grows.
  • Problem support: you can talk to a real person if you have a problem with your account. A real after-sales service in case of need.
  • More visibility and reach: your account has a better chance of appearing in searches. Posts, photos, and videos will get more exposure than others, appearing at the top of search results, comments, and recommendations.
  • Exclusive features: options to allow you to express yourself in a unique way.

To access Meta Verified you must be over 18 years old and have a history of activity on the platforms.

To date, only residents of New Zealand and Australia can test this subscription. It will then be deployed worldwide.

Why offer a paid service?

Facebook and Instagram will always remain free, assured Mark Zuckerberg.

“The idea is to improve the authenticity and security of our services.”

Very much inspired by the paid certification launched by Elon Musk on Twitter, Meta Verified promises to better protect users of the Meta group’s platforms.

The Meta Verified service is available for $11.99 per month. This amount only applies to users using a web browser.

Mark Zuckerberg has taken up Elon Musk’s strategy of charging more for subscriptions from a smartphone in order to pass on the taxes applied by Apple and Google’s app stores. On mobile, it will cost $14.99.

Meta is looking to diversify its revenues. This change in strategy comes at a time when the historical social networks are seeing their number of users grow and their revenues shrink.

In 2022, the California-based group saw its advertising revenue decline for the first time since it went public in 2012.
